Some people were born to be behind a camera. I am not one of those people. Some people were born to be in front of it. I am not one of those people, either. Needless to say, writing is my thing, but I need a little help in the photography area. A good visual presence on the web is so important, so if you’re like me, you may be looking for a little help. Looking for photos can be so overwhelming if you don’t know where to look.
Fear not, though, because I have a solution! Enter- Public Domain and Royalty Free Stock Photos. These photos, by definition, are free photos that are placed online and are free of copyrights. In other words, they are available to use on your blog or website for free, without having to worry about copyright infringements of any kind. (YAY!) Many of the sites suggest that you credit the photographer, but do not require it.
I have found hundreds of sites online that supply free stock photos, but many require you to subscribe to a mailing list to receive them- LAME! These are the six that I have found my diverse and most useful. Best of all, they are all free and easy to download! Happy Downloading!
Pic Jumbo has hundreds of free (and some not free if you’re looking to pay, but why would you?) images in several different categories. On this site, you have to search by category for the images, so I usually look under the “fashion” and “sunlights” categories to find the pictures for my blog, simply because these two categories have photos that most match my blog theme.
Okay, first of all, how cute is this pup? Now that the cute has been noted, down to business. Free Stocks has several high quality, gorgeous, (and sometimes cute as this pup) photos for your blog or website. This site gives you the option to either search by category as a whole, by a specific keyword as a whole, or by a specific keyword within a category. For sites that allow me to search by keyword, I start by searching words like “pastel”, “girly”, “pink”, and “light”, to try to best fit the theme of my blog. If I don’t find something that way, I do some category surfing from there.
This site is amazing if you are looking for images that could be considered a little “different”. All the photos on this site were taken by one man- Ryan McGuire- and are free of copyright restrictions. You may be asking asking when you would need a picture of a cool pineapple sporting high-top converse and a banana scarf, but I think the real question you should be asking is, when would you not?
This site is definitely one of my favorites. I would be lying if I told you that I don’t already have several photos from this site on my blog already. The accessibility of this site is top notch. There are several options in terms of ways to search. You can search by category, by whats trending, by what you’ve viewed in the past, or just by keywords. I have yet to visit this site and not find a photo for a post by typing in a keyword or looking in the “trending” category. I found this picture by simply searching the term “pastel”. 10/10 would recommend this site.
Another one of my favorite photo sites, Unsplash is full of pretty photos. This site is also easy to navigate. You can search by keyword, or browse by collection.
Finally, we have Pixabay. You may have noticed that this image is alarmingly similar to the featured image for this post. That’s because- it is! Pixabay is great resource for bloggers and business owners, because there are photos from so many different photographers and categories. Browse by category, or just search by keyword to narrow it down more quickly!
Like I said, looking for photos can be so overwhelming if you don’t know where to look. Hopefully, this helps you in narrowing down a few places.
