As Semisonic says in their 1998 hit “Closing Time”- Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.
Okay, you know life has got you down when you start referencing 90’s alternative rock lyrics. (I won’t pretend like I don’t love that song, though)
Its the little things in life that make you happy, right? And sometimes, when life gets you down in a broader sense, you have to look in between the lines for the little things that make you happy on a day to day basis to lift your spirits.
So, that’s what I am doing here today- making a list of the little things that make me happy to lift my spirits. The more I thought about it, the more I actually realized that there are a lot of little things making me happy right now, and it was super hard to narrow it down to just nine. Spirits=lifted.
9 Things that Make Me Happy Right Now
Okay, I literally love bullet journaling. I first saw the concept on pinterest and I have to say, it didn’t really catch my attention at first. I was always forced to keep a journal as a child for religious reasons, and I never really enjoyed writing in it. Like, sometimes, you just don’t have enough on your mind to reflect on your day! Bullet journaling, I came to find out, is absolutely nothing like traditional journal keeping. If you have never heard of bullet journaling, you can read a little bit about it here. The best part of bullet journaling is that the journal itself is basically organized chaos. There is no theme, no organization, and no rules. Every page can be different. Mine is full of charts and lists and doodles and ideas. I carry it with my everywhere. Also, not going to lie, it was super satisfying justifying spending $20+ on a notebook.. and its super cute! What can I say? I’m addicted! If you have ever considered bullet journaling, I am here to tell you- it is 100% worth it to start. 10/10 would recommend. I am probably going to do an entire post about bullet journaling here soon, so keep an eye out for that for some specific examples of how you can start one and what you can include inside.
My Day Designer
I am a control freak. There, I said it. Anyone who knows me already knows this. I love planning my days. I love planning my weeks. I love planning my life out! And, if you’re close to me, odds are that I love planning your life out, too! If you are like this, even remotely, I have the planner for you. Enter- the day designer. I swear by this planner. I have had a planner every year since I was in the 7th grade (that’s a lot of years and a lot of planners), and I have never found a planner more organized and fit to my needs. Not only are there pages for you to write down your goals, and overall daily routines in the front of the planner, but each week, there are spaces to write down the things you are grateful for, to prioritize your days by making numeric lists, and to make a weekly to do. There is also an inspirational quote by every week, and who doesn’t love that??
I have suffered from chronic cluster migraines my entire life, and until recently, I have never found anything that could even remotely aid in helping me to feel better once I got one. When one of my managers at work told me about an oil that I could rub on my skin that could potentially ease the pain of a migraine, I kind of thought he was crazy. If the neurologists couldn’t find me a medication that helped, how would an oil help?! Because he was my manager and duh… you would be dumb not to try to please your manager, I accepted the little bottle of oil. Two days later I got a migraine and rubbed a couple drops of the oil on my forehead. Spoiler alert: It works. The best part? Its natural, so no damage to my liver! It doesn’t completely heal the migraine, or course, but it definitely eases the pain enough for me to get through the day or, if I am home, lay down and go to sleep (If you have ever had a migraine, you know how hard it can be to fall asleep with one). This oil has, literally, been life changing, and I’m mad I didn’t discover it sooner!
Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk
I wash my hair every 5-7 days. Yes, you read that right, I usually only wash my hair once a week. I was not hashtag blessed with beautiful, smooth, straight hair, so washing, drying, and straightening it takes over two hours even at a short length. Obviously, I don’t have that kind of time to spend on my hair every morning! So, once a week I wash, dry, and straighten my hair, and its good for the whole week. Luckily, my hair usually looks pretty nice for about four days, but by the fourth night, it will start to get a little oily. I had never really cared for dry shampoo, because it acted more like hairspray on my hair than anything. That is, until I got the Klorane Dry Shampoo in my Fab Fit Fun box this past month. This dry shampoo is awesome. It literally makes my hair look like it has been freshly washed, without adding that “hairspray” feel or making it hard to style.
I love cups. Some girls collect shoes, some girls collect make-up…. I collect cups. If you think I am kidding, I wish I were. Charlie is constantly reprimanding me for spending so much money buying more and more cups when I already have a collection that is now probably over 50 different cups, bottles, and tumblers. Once again, if you think I am kidding, I wish I were. I can’t stop, and I won’t stop. So, whats so special about this water bottle? Well, first of all, its only $8.00 and it comes in a bunch of different colors, so there’s that. Also, can you put a yeti cup in your purse and carry it around everywhere with you? Nope! Didn’t think so! You can, however, put this handy dandy water bottle in whatever bag you’re carrying, and its double walled so there is no leakage! Yay! I love it. Hydration is Life. Hydration is love.
My Morning Breakfast Shake
Eating breakfast is super important. It is, after all, the most important meal of the day. I understand that. Each night I go to bed and set my alarm with every intention to wake up in the morning early enough to make a nutritious breakfast, and every morning I wake up and snooze my alarm 6-7 times until I wake up with just enough time to put on clothes and leave. Yep. No time for breakfast for me. But, fear not, underachievers and breakfast haters alike, there is a solution. If you read my post Protein Pro Tips, you may know a little something about my breakfast and coffee on the go. Since I have written that post, however, I have modified my breakfast and coffee on the go to an even simpler equation with an equally as delicious solution:
1 Premier Protein Caramel+1 Can Starbucks Double shot Espresso and Cream+ Ice= Breakfast and Coffee on the Go
This gets me through the day.
My Alex and Ani Stingray Set
I wrote a little bit about this about a month ago, but my Alex and Ani Stingray set is my favorite accessory to date. Charlie got it for me during a trip to Disney Springs, and I have basically worn it every day since. First of all, the beaded bracelet is blue, which is my favorite color, so that’s a pretty huge bonus. Also, a stingray was my first really big, hard fighting salt water catch (ps I love to fish), so as you can imagine, the minute I saw an Alex and Ani Stingray set, I had to have it. And I got it! Well, Charlie got it for me. And I love it! It literally makes me happy every time I look at it!
The Holy Basil. That’s what is says on the box, anyway, and I kind of agree. This stuff is magic. Its not the best tasting, but even the smell is calming. One of my friends at work got me hooked on this stuff, and it is a great natural aid for anyone with anxiety. I drink it when I am feeling anxious, when I am feeling sick, and before I go to bed to calm me. You can get it at whole foods or online
The person who invented subscription boxes is my hero. I love them. I love getting packages in the mail, I love online shopping, and I love feeling like I am getting a good deal. Subscription boxes literally satisfy my love and need for all of these things. I started my subscription box addiction last year with pupbox when I got JenniFur. I kept the subscription for a few months until I could no longer afford it. I may pick it back up again in the future, because spoiling my dog is my favorite (imagine me as the mother to a human child). Recently, I picked up two new boxes- The Fab Fit Fun box, and the Mystery Tackle box (I got this one for Charlie for our anniversary, but I am benefiting from it too which rocks). The Summer box was my first Fab Fit Fun box, and needless to say, I cannot wait for the fall box. I am super happy with everything that came in the box. If you enjoy fishing at all, I would 10/10 recommend the mystery tackle box. It came with some really cool artificial baits worth a lot more than I paid for the monthly box!
So, there you have it. 9 Things that make me happy. What makes you happy when life has got you down?
Until Next time,
