I survived Hurricane Irma everyone!
Luckily, she decide to slow down a little, and we didn’t get hit here in central Florida as badly as we could have (we were expecting a category 4 or 5 this time last week, and we were hit with a category 2), but still, it was 10/10 a terrifying experience that I would not wish upon anyone.
My house lost power at around 8:30 PM on Saturday night, and the eye of the storm went over Central Florida at about 2:00 AM. I stayed awake most of the night in the dark listening to wind blow and trees fall (and my own heavy breathing #anxietyproblems). By about 8 in the morning, Irma had fled the scene and I was able to go outside and examine the damage. If I have learned anything from this hurricane, its that if you think having an oak tree in your yard in Florida is a good idea, you are wrong. There were fallen oaks everywhere- on houses, on cars, on the streets, and they really caused the most damage. Since we have virtually no trees in our yard, the clean up was minimal. Our windows were boarded (for my non-Floridian friends, that means we put large pieces of plywood over the windows), so we had no damage to our home. Yay! We got our power back on Monday night, which is amazing because several of my friends and coworkers are expected to be out of power until late this week or early next week.
Overall, we made out pretty well. We were certainly hashtag blessed in that aspect.
In case you were wondering, my mason jar luminary came in handy when the power went out! I could not have made it at a more perfect time! Irma right?
I still have no internet service at my house, so it could be a while before I can construct a nice post. In the mean time, thanks in advance for being patient with me!
Until next time (whenever that may be),
